Every fall tens of thousands of these gulls pass by the coastline of Point Barrow, journeying from their Siberian nesting grounds through the Chukchi Sea to the edges of the Beaufort Sea and then circle back to the Bering Sea where they spend the winter along the pack ice edge. On October 17th, in the midst of a gale, a steady stream passed just offshore, feeding on krill.
